Show 521 Atomic Iran: Countdown to Armageddon…How the West Can Be Saved. Michael Medved talks to author Mike Evans.

Book Description- During Dr. Mike Evans research for this book in Israel in late 2009, he was told by a high-level Israeli government official that should Iran achieve its nuclear ambitions, it would then have a nuclear umbrella which would allow it to accelerate terrorism throughout the Sunni Gulf oil states in an attempt to fulfill its vision of a world caliphate. An ensuing multi-trillion dollar nuclear arms race between the Sunni and Shia states in the region would drive the price of oil to never-before-seen levels for decades to come. The estimate given him was that oil prices could go as high as $200 per barrel. This would further decimate the world economy. With the ascension of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the position of power in Iran, much has been said about the Mahdi. Al-Mahdi was the Twelfth Imam in the line of Ali, who disappeared down a well at the age of five. Refusing to believe that he was dead, his followers imbued him with timelessness. They declared him to be merely hidden, or in a state of occultation, and declared that on some future date he would suddenly reappear to reestablish an Islamic caliphate worldwide. The Twelver’s eschatology, however, proved problematic; it espoused an apocalyptic upheaval in order for the Mahdi, or Hidden Imam, to ascend to his rightful place of leadership. These Twelvers championed the tenet that every individual, regardless of his religious belief, would one day bow to Islam or die. In Ahmadinejad’s mind, an atomic bomb in Tel Aviv would usher in the Mahdi, and all the world’s demise (Jews and Christians) would instantly be converted to Islam. Compared to Ahmadinejad and his Twlever band, al-Qaeda resembles Boy Scouts ushering little old ladies across busy streets. What does the world really think of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Twelver beliefs? Are most people aware of his devotion to the Mahdi? Do most understand that he is an ardent Twelver, a dedicated disciple of the Twelfth Imam, who will do anything to insure that the world is made ready for the second coming of a false messiah even if it requires manufacturing his own apocalyptic event to insure a rush to Armageddon? When Dr. Evans met Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s spiritual advisor in New York City for a UN meeting in 2007, he declared that his leader would usher in the Mahdi the twelfth descendant of Mohammad through such an apocalyptic event within three years. President Obama seems incapable of fully accepting his culpability should he pursue talks with Iran’s bloody regime. He was given a legitimate chance to support change for the good of the Iranian populace following the June, 2009 Iranian election. He had an opportunity to respond vigorously, yet he failed to do so in a timely manner. America’s forty-fourth president has all but acquiesced to Iran’s nuclear course. Even during the election process Mr. Obama signified that he was agreeable to a meeting with the regime: I would [talk to Iran’s leaders without preconditions]. And the reason is this, that the notion that somehow not talking to countries is punishment to them — which has been the guiding diplomatic principle of this [Bush] administration — is ridiculous. The Iranians saw this as weakness on the part of the American presidential candidate. Since taking office, Mr. Obama has done nothing to counter that opinion. Ahmadinejad has declared the issue closed, not worthy of talks with the leader of The Great Satan. He has rebuffed the advances of a man who apparently wants to dance with Iran. Ahmadinejad feels he is in the driver’s seat, and unless a backbone transplant is in the offing, Mr. Obama will likely acquiesce to whatever terms Ahmadinejad demands prior to any face-to-face talks with the American president. The countdown to Armageddon has begun.

Show 516 Crash Course The American Automobile Industrys Road from Glory to Disaster. Michael Medved talks to author Paul Ingrassia

From the publisher- ABOUT THIS BOOK   This is the epic saga of the American automobile industry’s rise and demise, a compelling story of hubris, denial, missed opportunities, and self-inflicted wounds that culminates with the president of the United States ushering two of Detroit’s Big Three car companies—once proud symbols of prosperity—through bankruptcy. The cost to American taxpayers topped $100 billion—enough to buy every car and truck sold in America in the first half of 2009. With unprecedented access, Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Ingrassia takes us from factory floors to small-town dealerships to Detroit’s boardrooms to the inner sanctums of the White House. He reveals why President Barack Obama personally decided to save Chrysler when many of his advisors opposed the idea. Ingrassia provides the dramatic story behind Obama’s dismissal of General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner and the angry reaction from GM’s board—the same people who had watched idly while the company plunged into penury.

In Crash Course, Ingrassia answers the big questions: Was Detroit’s self-destruction inevitable? What were the key turning points? Why did Japanese automakers manage American workers better than the American companies themselves did? He also describes dysfunctional corporate cultures (even as GM’s market share plunged, the company continued business as usual) and Detroit’s perverse system of “inverse layoffs” (which allowed union members to invoke seniority to avoid work). Along the way we meet Detroit’s frustrated reformers and witness the wrenching decisions that Ford executives had to make to avoid GM’s fate.

Informed by Ingrassia’s twenty-five years of experience covering the auto industry for The Wall Street Journal, and showing an appreciation for Detroit’s profound influence on our country’s society and culture, Crash Course is a uniquely American and deeply instructive story, one not to be missed.

Show 512 Dennis Prager talks to Thomas Sowell, widely read syndicated columnist, best selling author and scholar in residence at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University. His new book is Intellectuals and Society. The President’s State of the Union Speech is also a topic of discussion.

Thomas Sowell unmasks the intellectuals who exalt themselves by denigrating our society — and are working to destroy it.

Intellectuals and Society by Thomas Sowell

There has probably never been an era in history when intellectuals have played a larger role in society – and yet few Americans know these immensely influential people who are doing so much to steer our nation off course. But now, the latest thought-provoking book from the renowned conservative thinker Thomas Sowell, offers you a unique introduction to the world of intellectuals. Intellectuals and Society introduces you to the thinkers of our society, many of them unknown to the general public, who mold our society and make an impact on people in every walk of life, both for the better and for the worse — but usually for the worse. Sowell’s vision, as expansive as ever, ranges over economics, politics, the media, academia, the law, and even war as he shows the momentous ways in which this small group of people wields a baneful influence upon our nation and Western civilization as a whole.

These intellectuals, Sowell says, are surrounded by a huge array of people and groups who disseminate their ideas: journalists, teachers, staffers to legislators, law clerks, and other members of the intelligentsia. Thus their influence on the course of society can be considerable, or even crucial. He shows how intellectuals have — on issues ranging across the spectrum from housing policies to laws governing organ transplants — sought to have decision- making discretion taken from those directly involved, who have personal knowledge and a personal stake, and transferred to third parties who have neither, and who pay no price for being wrong.

Sowell shows how intellectuals have filtered information in the media, in the schools, and in academia, to leave out things that threaten their vision of the world. Intellectuals’ downplaying of objective reality and objective criteria, says Sowell, extends beyond social, scientific, or economic phenomena into art, music, and philosophy. Above all, he reveals how intellectuals exalt themselves by running America down and turning Americans against each other. Whether the subject is crime, economics, or other matters, intellectuals hold positions that are conspicuously different from those held by society — while presenting themselves as intellectually and morally superior to ordinary folk.

Their vision of the world, Sowell explains, includes a role for themselves as a self-anointed vanguard, leading the ignorant masses toward a better world. They treat those whose ideas or vision are different as unworthy obstacles to progress, nuisances to be disregarded, circumvented, or discredited, rather than as people on the same moral and intellectual plane, whose arguments are to be engaged factually and logically. Sowell points out how college speech codes with subjective criteria and “re-education” provisions for those expressing “benighted” opinions emphasize how intellectuals demonize and marginalize their opponents.

Sowell shows how this vision that intellectuals have of themselves as the anointed is a major obstacle preventing examining their opinions in light of evidence and experience. He tears the cover off the ruthlessness with which the anointed assail their conservative opponents, in defiance of ever mounting evidence against their pet theories — like the “root causes” of crime.

The wisdom and insight of Thomas Sowell:

How intellect is not wisdom, and what the difference is

One of the surprising privileges of intellectuals: the free granted to them to be scandalously asinine without harming their reputation

“Public intellectuals” like Bertrand Russell and Noam Chomsky who dabble — often with disastrous results — in fields other than the ones in which they made their name and reputation

Top-ranked intellectuals who have made utterly irresponsible statements and advocated hopelessly unrealistic and recklessly dangerous things

How many intellectuals and their followers are far more impressed than they should be by the fact that highly educated elites like themselves have far more knowledge than does the population at large

Central planning: just one of many ideas popular among intellectuals that depends on the underlying assumption that people with more knowledge should be guiding society

Why free markets, judicial restraint, and reliance on decisions and traditions growing out of the experiences of the many — rather than the presumptions of an elite few — are so important to those who do not share the social vision prevalent among intellectual elites

How the association of intellectuals with violence occurs too often to be dismissed as an aberration

How, on so many issues, intellectuals have tended to dismiss, rather than answer, the objections of those with opposing views

How saying that it is hard or impossible to discern what was meant by a law has often been a prelude to making decisions that ignore even the plainest meanings of laws in order to impose notions currently in vogue in elite circles as the law of the land

Bureaucracies: how they’re often able to turn the visions of the intelligentsia into the law of the land, subject to little correction from those who know better or who suffer the consequences

Why teachers are universally held unaccountable for the consequences — either to their students or to society in general — of their disastrous educational theories

How the societal elites propped up by the intellectuals imposes few constraints on those intellectuals — so long as they are propounding the prevailing vision of the anointed

Among Americans today, Sowell concludes, the steady encroachment of policies, practices, and laws based on ideas forced upon us by the intelligentsia has steadily narrowed the scope of the freedoms ordinary Americans have always had — freedom to run their own lives, as well as to shape government policy. Intellectuals and Society unravels in clear, non-intellectual terms some of the puzzling phenomena in the world of the intellectuals — analyzing the nature and role of intellectuals in society and exploring the ominous implications of that role for the direction in which the Leftist intelligentsia are taking our society and Western civilization in general.

ABOUT THIS BOOK- It’s a giant gap in our history. The Great Inflation, argues award-winning columnist Robert J. Samuelson in this provocative book, was the worst domestic policy blunder of the postwar era and played a crucial role in transforming American politics, economy, and everyday life–and yet its story is hardly remembered or appreciated. In these uncertain economic times, it is more imperative than ever that we understand what happened in the 1960s and 1970s, lest we be doomed to repeat our mistakes.

From 1960 to 1979, inflation rose from barely more than 1 percent to nearly 14 percent. It was the greatest peacetime inflationary spike in this nation’s history, and it had massive repercussions in every area of our lives. The direct consequences included Ronald Reagan’s election to the presidency in 1980, stagnation in living standards, and a growing belief–both in America and abroad–that the great-power status of the United States was ending. The Great Inflation and Its Aftermath traces the origins and rise of double-digit inflation and its fall in the brutal 1981-82 recession, engineered by the Federal Reserve under then-chairman Paul Volcker and with the staunch backing of Reagan.

But that is only half the story. The end of high inflation triggered economic and social changes that are still with us. The stock market and housing booms were both direct outcomes; American business became more productive–and also much less protective of workers; and globalization was encouraged.

We cannot understand today’s world, Samuelson contends, without understanding the Great Inflation and its aftermath. Nor can we prepare for the future unless we heed its lessons. This incisive and enlightening book will stand as the authoritative account of a watershed event of our times.

Praise for The Great Inflation and Its Aftermath

“Newsweek and Washington Post columnist Samuelson is one of the rare journalists who debates politics and economics with a healthy skepticism toward conventional wisdom. Politicians would do well to study [the errors] the past that teach that choosing quick fixes only delays and worsens the inevitable.”– Booklist

“If you want to understand the economic events of the last half century, you should read. . . Robert Samuelson’s The Great Inflation and Its Aftermath: –U.S News & World Report.

Show 509 Michael Steele’s book- Right Now: A 12-Step Program for Defeating the Obama Agenda,”  Medved talks to Michael Steele

Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele released a book during the week of January 4 without the input of the party’s leaders, a move that may be the most recent in a series of missteps for Steele.

Steele”s book, “Right Now: A 12-Step Program for Defeating the Obama Agenda,”

For all of Michael Medveds shows go to https://www.michaelmedved.com/site to listen live for free or $4.95 per month to download all of his podcasts.-

From the Republican National Committee’s Michael Steele: A solid, conservative “12-step program” to restore America’s glory

“A long-overdue battle cry for a fresh, energetic conservatism to fight Obama’s socialist vision.” — SEAN HANNITY

Right Now: A 12-Step Program for Defeating The Obama Agenda

by Michael Steele

Now more than ever, the Obama-led Left in America is openly attacking the foundations of the American experiment. They believe that the government is smarter than you are, and entitled to make all your most important life decisions. They believe that real freedom isn’t doing what you want to do, but doing what government lets you do. Even worse, they brook no disagreement, and enforce their hegemony through the most influential positions of power in America: the presidency, majorities in the House and Senate, activist judges, the print and broadcast media, and the academic community.

But now Michael Steele, the dynamic and outspoken chairman of the Republican National Committee, is standing up and saying enough is enough. In Right Now: A 12-Step Program for Defeating The Obama Agenda, Steele sets out a bold conservative plan to reclaim America from the socialist Left, and reclaim our freedoms from those who want to control our lives.

The road to restoring the conservative movement, the Republican Party, and the nation, says Steele, begins with admitting our mistakes. The Republican Party hasn’t moved too far to the Right, as the conventional wisdom claims, but too far to the Left. It is time, says Steele, for America to part ways with liberal groupthink, hypocrisy, and hero worship, and to return to our founding principle: the protection of individual rights, leading to liberty and justice for all. Liberalism, he points out with refreshing clarity, doesn’t work, and conservatives need to distinguish their principles sharply from liberal ones.

Steele points out that Barack Obama’s “Reign of Error” is propelled by a single idea that unites his policies: he trusts government more than he trusts the American people. And with Democrats moving against personal freedom in numerous ways, the fundamental American right to dissent from government policies is being threatened — and must be defended. Steele also explains how and why we must take back the economy, pointing out that “with the Democratic Congress acting as little more than a rubber stamp for President Obama’s most expensive wishes, the liberals’ brief time in office has already produced trillions of dollars in new debt, rising unemployment, the specter of inflation and a weakening dollar, and a new raft of suffocating regulations on businesses.” For that and other reasons, says Steele, “in the best spirit of President Reagan, it’s time to saddle up and ride. Our country needs us.”

Americans are still searching for new ideas, Steele maintains, and this represents an opportunity for conservatives to present fresh proposals and win the confidence of a new generation of voters. “Our principles are right,” says Michael Steele, “but we have not always talked about them effectively.” Right Now is a sound conservative solution to that problem.

Restoring conservatism, Republicanism — and America:

How Republicans have a duty to remind all Americans of the price paid in blood so we could all claim the undeniable truth that all men are created equal, and that each has the inalienable right to conduct his or her own life as he or she sees fit — not on condition of government approval

How liberals’ increasing intolerance reflects a disturbing hubris in the liberal mindset

Unsolicited advice for President Obama: he won’t bring people to liberty by apologizing for the freest nation on earth and making nice with fascists and tyrants

How Obama has overstepped the bounds of responsible governance and basic accountability — and how his promises of bipartisanship have been exposed as empty rhetoric papering over the same old liberal, big- government agenda

The two most valuable preconditions to advancing any legislative agenda

How modern liberals come up with so many policies that inflict so many bad things on so many good people — the flawed principle of liberalism from which their dangerous policies come

The simple principle on national security issues that separates Republicans from most Democrats

How, after spending years undermining public confidence in our election system, Democrats have tried to game that very system by securing behind-the-scenes jobs for thousands of unscrupulous leftwing activists in conducting the 2010 U.S. Census

Why the liberal vision of America as an acid stew of bigotry, historic offense, and unchecked individualism is simply bizarre

How Democratic congressmen, senators, and even presidents proclaim the virtues of public education and the evils of vouchers and private schools — but when the public schools are a wreck, they’re the first ones to jump ship

Why it’s long past time for liberals to stop whining about how Republicans ran the federal government under President Bush

How national security should not be a game for scoring political points, but should instead reflect a common purpose and understanding of America’s exceptional role in an increasingly dangerous and unfriendly world

Revealed: the dirty little secret of why liberals breezily dismiss the threat of al-Qaeda, Iran, and other enemies, and focus all their attacks on Republicans

How a government big enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to take everything you have

“Michael Steel’s book is a prescription for not only returning the Republican Party to power — it’s an action plan for bringing the party of Lincoln back to the conservative principles upon which both it and the nation were founded. It’s a must-read for everyone who believes that “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” is more than an antiquated catchphrase in a historical document. — MARK R. LEVIN, New York Times bestselling author of Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto

“In the face of exploding deficits, an attempt to nationalize healthcare, and the erosion of the values that made America great, Michael Steele is taking a stand. Upon witnessing the suffering of the United States and the Republican Party when it abandons its core conservative principles, Steele sounds a long-overdue battle cry for a fresh, energetic conservatism to fight Obama’s socialist vision.” — SEAN HANNITY

With wit and insight, passion and judgment, Michael Steele points the way to a GOP comeback.” — WILLIAM J. BENNETT, host of nationally syndicated radio show Morning in America and former Secretary of Education under President Reagan

Show 508 From the podcast For Faith and Family- The Design Revolution. Jan 14-15, 2010 –  50 minutes. 11MB.

Today Richard Land’s special guest is William Dembski, research professor of philosophy at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and the author of the book, The Design Revolution: Answering the Toughest Questions about Intelligent Design.

For 150 years Darwinism has shaped scientific, academic and popular thinking regarding the complexity of life. That thinking has in many ways shaped our culture. This monolith has stood for so many years like a bastion against faith-seemingly impervious to the challenges of men and women of God. For years Darwinists have refused even to engage people of faith in dialog. Dismissing biblical accounts as mere fantasy, their mantra has been, “Show me the science!” That”s what today’s guest is in the business of doing. Dr. Dembski is one of the strong voices in what has come to be known as the Intelligent Design movement. He is with us today to talk about his book, The Design Revolution.

The intelligent design movement holds the promise to influence and shape our culture as Darwinism crumbles. Let’s commit to pray that as the world begins to recognize intelligence in design, God’s fingerprints in His creation, that will many will be led to a personal encounter with the Designer Himself

Thomas Sowell unmasks the intellectuals who exalt themselves by denigrating our society — and are working to destroy it

Show 507 Book- Courting Disaster: How the CIA Kept America Safe and How Barack Obama Is Inviting the Next Attack. Audio MP3

Show 507 Courting Disaster: How the CIA Kept America Safe and How Barack Obama Is Inviting the Next Attack. Michael Medved interviews author Marc Thiessen.

How the CIA’s enhanced-interrogation program prevented a “second wave” of attacks on America — and how President Obama is putting us in danger again

Few Americans know of al Qaeda’s 2006 plot to hijack seven American passenger jets and blow them up as they crossed the Atlantic. Fewer still know that this was just one of many post-9/11 terrorist plots that were foiled thanks to information obtained by waterboarding the captured 9/11 mastermind, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (“KSM”). Yet, immediately upon taking office, President Barack Obama began to dismantle this vital program, and released reams of documents describing the techniques used to interrogate KSM and other high-value terrorists — claiming that such techniques not only constituted “torture” but were also ineffective. While Obama’s release of these documents has done enormous damage to our national security, it has also make it possible to prove that he is wrong on both counts.

Courting Disaster: How the CIA Kept America Safe and How Barack Obama Is Inviting the Next Attack contains some of the most sensitive intelligence information our country possesses: the secrets behind how the CIA successfully interrogated the men who killed thousands on September 11, 2001, and stopped them from killing thousands more. Written by former Bush administration insider Mark Thiessen — who spent countless hours with the individuals who ran the CIA program — Courting Disaster tells the story of how America’s dedicated intelligence professionals went head- to-head with the world’s most dangerous terrorists, got them to tell us their plans, and kept America safe for eight years — until Barack Obama exposed their secrets to the enemy, unilaterally disarmed in the face of terror, and invited the next attack.

In exposing these secrets, writes Thiessen, President Obama repeated a number of lies about the CIA program — falsehoods that have been widely echoed in the news media and have become part of the conventional wisdom. Courting Disaster challenges that conventional wisdom, and refutes the false arguments that have been made Obama and the critics of the CIA program. For instance:

Obama and other critics have charged that enhanced interrogation techniques such as waterboarding are “torture.” Thiessen shows why they are not.

Obama has said the CIA program “did not make us safer.” Thiessen proves that it did.

Obama has said that America could have “gotten [the] same information without resorting to these techniques.” Thiessen shares the secret behind the success of the CIA program — and why we could not have gotten the vital intelligence it produced without these techniques.

Obama said that releasing highly-classified information about the CIA program did not damage our security because “so much of the information. . .had been publicly acknowledged. The covert nature of the information had been compromised.” Thiessen provides specific examples of how the information Obama released — information that was not publicly known — will aid our enemies and put America at greater risk of another terrorist attack.

Obama went to the CIA and told the men and women who work there “you’e got my full support.” Thiessen shows how Obama’s actions have decimated morale at the CIA, damaged our ability to recruit and retain quality officers for the counter-terrorism mission, and made our intelligence community increasingly risk-averse at a time when we need them leaning forward to stop new attacks.

Obama has said the CIA program is not “consistent with who we are” and that it “corrodes the character of [our] country.” Thiessen shows why the program is not only essential to our security, but fully consistent with the values of our country.

Obama has said that the CIA program damaged America’s reputation and “undermine[d] our moral authority” in the world. Thiessen shows why it is the critics — not the men and women of the CIA — who have damaged America’s reputation with false accusations of torture, and shameful comparisons of the actions of CIA officials to those of the Khmer Rouge and Japanese war criminals.

Among the most revealing disclosures in Courting Disaster are the many specific terrorist plots that were foiled thanks to from interrogations of terrorists in CIA custody. You’ll discover, for instance, how information from detainees in CIA custody led to. . .

. . .the arrest of al Qaeda terrorist Jose Padilla, who was sent to America on a mission to blow up high-rise apartment buildings using natural gas

. . .the capture of a cell of Southeast Asian terrorists which had been tasked by KSM to fly a passenger jet into the Library Tower in Los Angeles

. . .the capture of Ramzi Bin al-Shibh, KSM’s right-hand-man in the 9/11 attacks, just as he was finalizing plans for a plot to hijack airplanes in Europe and fly them into Heathrow airport and buildings in downtown London

. . .the disruption of a plot to replicate the destruction at our embassies in East Africa — this time in Pakistan

. . .the disruption of a plot to blow up our Marine base in Djibouti, which could have rivaled the 1983 bombing of our Marine barracks in Beirut

. . .the breaking up an al Qaeda cell that was developing anthrax for terrorist attacks inside the United States

America has gone nearly eight years without another terrorist attack on our soil for one reason only: in the months and years after 9/11, we captured many of al Qaeda”s top operational leaders and got them to tell us what they were planning. This achievement is taken for granted in some quarters today. But think back to that morning of September 12, 2001. Would you have believed, back then, that it was possible? If not, read Courting Disaster to find out who to thank, how they did it — and how President Obama is putting America in danger again.

Show 506 Book- Comeback America. Turning the Country Around and Restoring Fiscal Responsibility. Audio MP3

Show 506 Book- Comeback America. Turning the Country Around and Restoring Fiscal Responsibility by  David Walker. Michael Medved talks to author.

ABOUT THIS BOOK- He’s one of America’s most capable, canny, candid, and independent financial experts. Now David M. Walker sounds a call to action. Comeback America is a tough-minded, innovative, inspiring guide to help us avoid the approaching economic abyss and put the country back on track again.

As comptroller general of the United States and head of the Government Accountability Office (GAO)—”the nation’s top auditor”—Walker warned Congress and the administration as the federal surplus became a giant deficit under George W. Bush. As president and CEO of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, he now works full-time to raise public awareness regarding mounting debt burdens being imposed on future generations. Comeback America is his crucial manifesto, a way for President Obama to end out-of-control government spending and reform our tax, retirement, health care, defense, and other systems—before it’s too late.

Walker believes that by 2030, absent significant reforms to current government programs and policies, federal taxes could double from current levels, meaning less money and poorer education for kids—which will hurt families along with our nation’s economic strength and position in the world. If our foreign creditors—such as China—decide to buy fewer of our Treasury bonds, interest rates will rise and cars and homes will become less affordable.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. Comeback America shows how we can return to our founding principles of fiscal responsibility and stewardship for future generations. The book includes bold ideas to control spending, save Social Security, dramatically alter Medicare, and simplify the tax code—all taking into account the Obama Administration’s current efforts, which receive never-before-published assessments both complimentary and critical.

Nonpartisan, nonideological, and filled with a love of the country its esteemed author has spent his life serving, Comeback America is a book for anyone interested in America’s economic future—in other words, a book everyone should read.

Show 504 The Next 100 Years. Medved talks to author George Friedman.

From the publisher-  “Conventional analysis suffers from a profound failure of imagination. It imagines passing clouds to be permanent and is blind to powerful, long term shifts taking place in full view of the world.” – George Friedman

In his book, George Friedman turns his eye on the future — offering a lucid, highly readable forecast of the changes we can expect around the world during the 21st century. He explains where and why future wars will erupt (and how they will be fought), which nations will gain and lose economic and political power, and how new technologies and cultural trends will alter the way we live in the new century.

The Next 100 Years draws on a fascinating exploration of history and geopolitical patterns dating back hundreds of years. Friedman shows that we are now, for the first time in half a millennium, at the dawn of a new era—with changes in store, including:

•The U.S.-Jihadist war will conclude—replaced by a second full-blown Cold War with Russia.

•China will undergo a major extended internal crisis, and Mexico will emerge as an important world power.

•A new global war will unfold toward the middle of the century between the United States and an unexpected coalition from Eastern Europe, Eurasia and the Far East, but armies will be much smaller and wars less deadly.

•Technology will focus on space—both for major military uses and for a dramatic new energy resource that will have radical environmental implications.

•The United States will experience a Golden Age in the second half of the century.

Show 497 Debate-  Dinesh D”Souza ENEMIES OF THE STATE: Why the U.S. Is Hated  April 18, 2002.

Gore Vidal, Robert Higgs and Dinesh D’Souza debate.

In a 2002 Gallup poll conducted in ten Muslim nations, only 22 percent of the people questioned viewed the United States favorably. Why does the United States foster such hatred in the Islamic world in particular? Is it our foreign policy—our support of Israel and of repressive Arab regimes in the Middle East? Or is it our culture? Does globalization spread American values that are simply antithetical, thus disruptive, to the traditional Islamic view of society? Just what should we do to win this struggle for the hearts and minds of those who despise us around the world?

Show 494 Dennis Prager talks to Steve Forbes about his new book, How Capitalism Will Save Us.

Synopsis- Has capitalism failed? Is it fundamentally greedy and immoral, enabling the rich to get richer? Are free markets Darwinian places where the most ruthless crush smaller competitors, where vital products and services are priced beyond the ability of many people to afford them?

Capitalism is the world’s greatest economic success story. It is the most effective way to provide for the needs of people and foster the democratic and moral values of a free society. Yet the worst recession in decades has widely—and understandably—shaken people’s faith in our system. Even before the current crisis, capitalism received a “bad rap” from a culture ambivalent about free markets and wealth creation.  This crisis of confidence is preventing a full recognition of how we got into the mess we’re in today—and why capitalism continues to be the best route to prosperity.

How Capitalism Will Save Us transcends labels such as “conservative” and “liberal” by showing how the economy really works. When free people in free markets have energy to solve problems and meet the needs and wants of others, they turn scarcity into abundance and develop the innovations that are the foremost drivers of economic growth. The freedom of democratic capitalism is, for example, what enabled Henry Ford to take a plaything of the rich—the car—and transform it into something affordable to working people.

In the capitalist system, economic growth doesn’t mean more of the same—grinding out a few more widgets every year. It’s about change to increase overall wealth and give more people the chance for a better life.

Show 492 Michael Medved talks to Norman Podhoretz about his book Why are jews Liberals?

About the book- From the bestselling author of World War IV, a brilliant and provocative examination of a central question in American politics and culture that is sure to generate tremendous controversy.

Norman Podhoretz says he has never in his entire life been asked any question on any subject as often as “Why are so many Jews liberals?”-or in its more specifically political form, “Why do most Jews always vote for the Democrats?” Podhoretz proposes to solve this puzzle. He first offers a fascinating account of anti-Semitism in the West to show why, for most of that time, Jews quite sensibly concluded that they had much more to fear from the right than the left. But since the Six Day War of 1967, he argues, this position has no longer made sense, and yet most Jews go on supporting the Democratic Party and the liberal agenda. Reviewing the history of Jewish political attitudes and thoroughly examining the available evidence, he then demonstrates that all the usual explanations-such as a passion for justice allegedly deriving from the prophets of the Hebrew Bible-are either inadequate or flat-out false. Finally he proposes his own answer to the great puzzle of why most Jews remain as committed to liberalism as ever.

There is no more vigorous thinker or skilled polemicist in American intellectual life than Norman Podhoretz. In Why Are Jews Liberals? he sums up his thinking on the political inclinations of his fellow Jews-in the process confounding conventional wisdom and changing the way we view American politics.

Show 489  Dennis Prager talks to Rodney Stark, Distinguished Professor of the Social Sciences at Baylor University. His new book is God’s Battalions: The Case for the Crusades…In segment two an interview with John Stossel.

In God”s Battalions, distinguished scholar Rodney Stark puts forth a controversial argument that the Crusades were a justified war waged against Muslim terror and aggression. Stark, the author of The Rise of Christianity, reviews the history of the seven major crusades from 1095-1291 in this fascinating work of religious revisionist history.

Book Description- In God’s Battalions, award-winning author Rodney Stark takes on the long-held view that the Crusades were the first round of European colonialism, conducted for land, loot, and converts by barbarian Christians who victimized the cultivated Muslims. To the contrary, Stark argues that the Crusades were the first military response to unwarranted Muslim terrorist aggression.

Stark reviews the history of the seven major Crusades from 1095 to 1291, demonstrating that the Crusades were precipitated by Islamic provocations, centuries of bloody attempts to colonize the West, and sudden attacks on Christian pilgrims and holy places. Although the Crusades were initiated by a plea from the pope, Stark argues that this had nothing to do with any elaborate design of the Christian world to convert all Muslims to Christianity by force of arms. Given current tensions in the Middle East and terrorist attacks around the world, Stark’s views are a thought-provoking contribution to our understanding and are sure to spark debate.

Show 484 Book- The Great Money Binge. Spending Our Way to Socialism. Michael Medved talks to author George Melloan

Description-Prestigious newspaper editor George Melloan, who worked for The Wall Street Journal for more than half a century, is no stranger to the wild ups and downs of the American and world economies. This brilliantly argued book explains — using detailed examples from the Crash of 1929 and from the Carter era — how government intervention actually prevents the economy from recovering its natural balance. Unless lawmakers realize the true importance of using supply-side economics in our current crisis, warns Melloan, nothing will save us from a new era of disastrous inflation and widespread global depression.

Citing the importance of historical example, Melloan explains how the world of economics was completely changed in the 1930s under the influence of English economist John Maynard Keynes. His theories advocating government interventionist policies were wholeheartedly adopted as a response to the Great Depression, and remained unquestioned until the “supply-side revolution” of 1980, after the stagflation of the 1970s showed the inherent weaknesses of neo-Keynesian economics. By employing what is sometimes called “Reaganomics,” President Ronald Reagan and his economic advisers sparked a quarter century of unparalleled prosperity. Unfortunately, as Melloan demonstrates, government policy soon began to revert to Keynesian theories, even though they are widely misunderstood and misapplied.

Now, with the Crash of 2008, our new president and government appear committed to ignoring the lessons of the past. With multibillion-dollar “stimulus packages” becoming the norm, and a multitrillion-dollar national debt that will keep growing so long as present policies are continued, America can look forward to a very grim future indeed.

There is only one solution: we must return to our eroded supply-side principles. In the face of general misunderstanding, the vastly experienced Wall Street Journal editor George Melloan outlines a lucid and detailed explanation of exactly why we are currently sinking so rapidly, how this crisis compares to similar situations in the past, and exactly what must be done to return the United States to the economic vitality it enjoyed not so long ago.

Show 482 Do as I Say (Not as I Do): Profiles in Liberal Hypocrisy. Medved talks to DVD producer.  Audio MP3

Michael Medved talks to Nick Tucker producer of the DVD Do as I Say (Not as I Do): Profiles in Liberal Hypocrisy.

Publisher Comments: Prominent liberals support a whole litany of policies and principles: progressive taxes, affirmative action, greater regulation of corporations, raising the inheritance tax, strict environmental regulations, children’s rights, consumer rights, and more. But do they actually live by these beliefs? Peter Schweizer decided to investigate the private lives of politicians like the Clintons, Nancy Pelosi, the Kennedys, and Ralph Nader; commentators Michael Moore, Al Franken, Noam Chomsky, and Cornel West; entertainers or philanthropists Barbra Streisand and George Soros. Using publicly-available real estate records, IRS returns, court depositions, and their own published statements, he sought to examine whether they lived by the principles they so forcefully advocate.

What he found was a long list of contradictions. Many of these proponents of organized labor had developed various methods to sidestep paying union wages or avoid employing unions altogether. They were also adept at avoiding taxes; invested heavily in corporations they had denounced; took advantage of foreign tax credits to use non-American labor overseas; espoused environmental causes while opposing those that might affect their own property rights; hid their investments in trusts to avoid paying estate tax; denounced oil companies but quietly owned them.

Schweizer”s conclusion is simple: liberalism in the end forces its adherents to become hypocrites. They adopt one pose in public, but when it comes to what matters most in their own lives-their property, their privacy, and their children–they jettison their liberal principles and adopt conservative ones. If these ideas don’t work for the very individuals who promote them, Schweizer asks, how can they work for the country?

Show 480 Dresden Dennis Prager interviews Frederick Taylor author of Dresden: Tuesday, 13 February, 1945  Podcast rating: 7.5 out of 10. Encore presentation of ACU show #3.

Publisher Comments: The bombing began shortly after 10:00 P.M. on February 13, 1945. In the fifteen hours that followed, 1,100 American and British heavy bombers dropped more than 4,500 tons of high-explosive bombs and incendiary devices, leaving the ancient city of Dresden — “the Florence of the Elbe” — in flaming ruins and claiming the lives of thousands of its citizens. Twelve weeks later the German surrender was in hand, signaling the end of World War II.

Yet today the bombing of Dresden is embedded in our collective consciousness not as the toppling blow to Nazi Germany but as one of history’s cruelest wartime atrocities, a vicious and militarily unjustifiable act of vengeful retribution against a peaceful, beautiful, defenseless city somehow removed from the war-making machinery that had otherwise consumed all of Germany.

What really happened at Dresden — both the facts of the events themselves and the reasons behind the remarkable legacy of propaganda that has left us in the dark about those events for nearly sixty years — is the subject of Frederick Taylor’s ground breaking study. After careful research into British, American, and German archives (including recently discovered documents, now available after decades of communist censorship) and interviews with both bombers and survivors, Taylor — a bilingual scholar, translator, and writer — has created the most complete portrait ever assembled of the city, its people, and those involved in its fate. Many of his findings require a revelatory shift in how we understand these events. For instance, he demonstrates that the numbers of dead — frequently cited in excess of 100,000 — were greatly exaggerated, for propagandapurposes, by Josef Goebbels (Taylor estimates the actual death toll at between 25,000 and 40,000) charges that Allied pilots overhead shot down German civilians as they fled toward safety were patently false contrary to popular belief, Dresden was a city of considerable military importance, both as a transportation hub and a major producer of armaments and military provisions.

“Dresden: Tuesday, February 13, 1945 is the first truly informed and fair-minded history of the bombing that lives in infamy. Frederick Taylor’s book, a responsible and long-overdue corrective to a sixty-year-long legacy of misinformation masquerading as fact, will be remembered for generations both as a work of enduring scholarship and as a moving, compassionate narrative of a human tragedy of historic significance.

Synopsis: For decades it has been assumed that the Allied bombing of Dresden — a cultured city famous for its china, chocolate, and fine watches — was militarily unjustifiable, an act of retribution for Germany’s ceaseless bombing of London and other parts of England.

Now, Frederick Taylor’s groundbreaking research offers a completely new examination of the facts and reveals that Dresden was a highly militarized city actively involved in the production of military armaments and communications. Incorporating first-hand accounts, contemporaneous press material and memoirs, and never-before-seen government records, Taylor proves unequivocally the very real military threat Dresden posed — and how a legacy of propaganda shrouded the truth for sixty years.

About the Author- Frederick Taylor studied history and modern languages at Oxford University and Sussex University. A Volkswagen Studentship award enabled him to research and travel widely in both parts of divided Germany at the height of the Cold War. Taylor is the author of Dresden and has edited and translated a number of works from German, including The Goebbels Diaries, 1939-1941. He is married with three children and lives in Cornwall, England.

Show 477 Dennis Prager talks to Dinesh D’Souza, best-selling author and founder of the Y God Institute. His new book is Life after Death: The Evidence.

Synopsis of book-  Is death the end? Or, as bestselling author Dinesh D’Souza argues, do the latest discoveries in physics and neuroscience, the most convincing philosophical deductions, and the most likely conclusions from anthropology and biology lend increasing credibility to the prospect of life after death? Life After Death: The Evidence presents a reasoned, scientifically based case that life after death is more than possible, it is highly probable. Indeed it has far more evidence on its side than atheistic arguments about death marking our complete and utter extinction. In a stunning tour de force, D”Souza reveals:

* How modern science lays the groundwork for a science-based belief in life after death
* The distinctions between mind and brain—and why it is perfectly reasonable to assume that your immaterial consciousness can survive the dissolution of your material body
* The great atheist philosopher who provided one of the most ingenious proofs for the likelihood of an afterlife
* How the theory of evolution, far from undercutting the idea of life after death, supports it
* The evidence of Near Death Experiences—what it tells us, what it doesn’t
* Why the Christian view of the afterlife is the most compelling and best suits the evidence
* What the probability of life after death means for our lives before death

Provocative, and combining a mastery of the arguments from philosophy, physics, and biology with an incisive analysis of how the world”s major religions have viewed the afterlife, D’Souza shows why we can expect that what Shakespeare called the “undiscovered country” will be discovered by us all.

Biography- Dinesh D’Souza is cofounder and director of the Y God Institute. Formerly he was a White House policy analyst and fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. The author of several best-selling books, including Illiberal Education, What’s So Great About America, and What’s So Great About Christianity, he lives in Rancho Santa Fe, California, with his wife Dixie and their daughter Danielle. Show 476 Michael Medved talks to SuperFreakonomics co-author Stephen J. Dubner

Synopsis- The New York Times best-selling Freakonomics was a worldwide sensation, selling over four million copies in thirty-five languages and changing the way we look at the world. Now, Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner return with SuperFreakonomics, and fans and newcomers alike will find that the freakquel is even bolder, funnier, and more surprising than the first.

Four years in the making, SuperFreakonomics asks not only the tough questions, but the unexpected ones: What’s more dangerous, driving drunk or walking drunk? Why is chemotherapy prescribed so often if it’s so ineffective? Can a sex change boost your salary?

SuperFreakonomics challenges the way we think all over again, exploring the hidden side of everything with such questions as:

  • How is a street prostitute like a department-store Santa?
  • Why are doctors so bad at washing their hands?
  • How much good do car seats do?
  • What’s the best way to catch a terrorist?
  • Did TV cause a rise in crime?
  • What do hurricanes, heart attacks, and highway deaths have in common?
  • Are people hard-wired for altruism or selfishness?
  • Can eating kangaroo save the planet?
  • Which adds more value: a pimp or a Realtor?

Levitt and Dubner mix smart thinking and great storytelling like no one else, whether investigating a solution to global warming or explaining why the price of oral sex has fallen so drastically. By examining how people respond to incentives, they show the world for what it really is—good, bad, ugly, and, in the final analysis, super freaky.Freakonomics has been imitated many times over—but only now, with SuperFreakonomics, has it met its match.

Show 475 Lies, Terror, and the Rise of the Neo-Communist Empire: Origins and Direction

By Toby Westerman . Paul Ibbitson from his radio show The Consious of Kansas talks to the author.

About the BookAbout the AuthorFree Preview.Lies, Terror, and the Rise of the Neo-Communist Empire: Origins and Direction,  is  essential reading for anyone who accesses the U.S. mass media.

Lies, Terror, and the Rise of the Neo-Communist Empire  is a  discussion of the origins and direction of the terror alliance between militant Islam and resurgent neo-communist nations and revolutionary groups.  This work also considers the role of the anti-American American in making the United States more vulnerable to attack by undermining the military, giving foreign dictators unreserved adulation, and distorting America’s image in colleges, universities, and schools.

Westerman”s work examines the survival and rebirth of Marxism as a powerful world force years after the collapse of the Soviet Union.  The author presents the espionage activities, guerrilla war tactics, and manipulation of the electoral process now used in Marxism’s reentrance upon the world stage.   Westerman demonstrates the threat posed by the neo-communist movement to U.S. security and the concept of individual liberty.

The neo-communist movement remains  suspicious of, if not overtly hostile to, religion, but its leaders around the world have found that an alliance with militant fundamentalist Islam is advantageous.  The common enemy for both ideologies is the United States of America.

Lies, Terror, and the Rise of the Neo-Communist Empire provides a unique historical perspective on militant Islam, giving the reader an understanding of how Muslim militants look at history, the West, alliances with “infidels,” and the use of terror as a tool of conquest.

Show 473 The 10 Big Lies About America. Michael Lamb with For Faith & Family radio show interviews author Michael Medved. 49 minutes. ACU highly recommends the book.

Synopsis of book- “It ain’t so much the things we don”t know that get us into trouble,nineteenth-century humorist Josh Billings remarked. “It’s the things we know that just ain”t so.”

In this bold and brilliantly argued book, acclaimed author and talk-radio host Michael Medved zeroes in on ten of the biggest fallacies that millions of Americans believe about our country—in spite of incontrovertible facts to the contrary. In The 10 Big Lies About America, Medved pinpoints the most pernicious pieces of America-bashing disinformation that pollute current debates about the economy, race, religion in politics, the Iraq war, and other contentious issues.

The myths that Medved deftly debunks include:

Myth: The United States is uniquely guilty for the crime of slavery and based its wealth on stolen African labor.

Fact: The colonies that became the United States accounted for, at most, 3 percent of the abominable international slave trade; the persistence of slavery in America slowed economic progress; and the U.S. deserves unique credit for ending slavery.

Myth: The alarming rise of big business hurts the United States and oppresses its people.

Fact: Corporations played an indispensable role in building America, and corporate growth has brought progress that benefits all with cheaper goods and better jobs.

Myth: The Founders intended a secular, not Christian, nation.

Fact: Even after ratifying the Constitution, fully half the state governments endorsed specific Christian denominations. And just a day after approving the First Amendment, forbidding theestablishment of religion, Congress called for a national “day of public thanksgiving and prayer” to acknowledge “the many signal favors of Almighty God.”

Myth: A war on the middle class means less comfort and opportunity for the average American.

Fact: Familiar campaign rhetoric about the victimized middle class ignores the overwhelming statistical evidence that the standard of living keeps rising for every segment of the population, as well as the real-life experience of tens of millions of middle-class Americans.

Each of the ten lies—widely believed among elites and taught as truth in universities and public schools—is a grotesque, propagandistic distortion of the historical record. For everyone who is tired of hearing America denigrated by people who don’t know what they”re talking about, The 10 Big Lies About America supplies the ammunition necessary to fire back the next time somebody tries to recycle these baseless beliefs. Medved’s witty, well-documented rebuttal is a refreshing reminder that as Americans we should feel blessed, not burdened, by our heritage.

Biography- MICHAEL MEDVED is the host of one of the most popular talk-radio programs in the country, reaching more than four million loyal listeners. He is the bestselling author of ten other books, including Right Turns, Hollywood vs. America, and What Really Happened to the Class of ’65? A member of USA Today’s board of contributors, he also writes a weekly column for Townhall.com. For more than a decade he served as cohost of Sneak Previews, PBS’s weekly movie-review show. Medved graduated from Yale with departmental honors in American history and attended Yale Law School as well. He lives with his family in the Seattle area.
